EVENT MVP App

Overview

I managed the launch of Varsity Spirit’s first-ever mobile app for the NCA All-Star National Championship, used by over 58,000 attendees. This initiative was one of the first major steps in Varsity’s broader digital transformation, laying the groundwork for future lead generation and fan engagement. The app centralized essential event information, including real-time scores, live competition schedules, venue maps, and a direct link to stream the events. It also connected users to the Varsity Spirit Store and introduced a fun, interactive game that encouraged in-person engagement and required app usage—boosting both downloads and on-site participation.

What I’VE Learned

This project taught me how to lead fast-paced digital product development from concept to launch under tight deadlines. I learned how to prioritize features for an MVP that could scale to support tens of thousands of users, while designing intuitive experiences for a live-event audience. It also deepened my understanding of cross-functional alignment—how to bring non-technical stakeholders on board, communicate technical decisions clearly, and guide teams through first-time adoption of digital tools with confidence and clarity.

WHAT MADE IT CHALLENGING

The biggest challenge was launching a fully functional MVP app in just a few months, on time for one of Varsity Spirit’s most prominent and visible events, the NCA All-Star National Championship, which attracted over 58,000 attendees. With no existing infrastructure or prior mobile experience to build upon, the pressure was high to deliver a stable, intuitive platform that could handle thousands of users in real-time. The timeline left no room for error, requiring rapid decision-making, tight coordination with developers, and a strong focus on only the highest-impact features.

IMPACT & KEY RESULTS

The MVP app was launched on time and successfully supported over 58,000 attendees during one of Varsity Spirit’s largest live events. It delivered real-time value through features like live scoring, venue wayfinding, streaming access, and interactive tools that enhanced the overall attendee experience. The app also introduced a new channel for digital lead capture, marking the brand’s first strategic move into event tech and mobile engagement. Its success validated the need for continued investment in digital tools and set a strong precedent for future innovation across Varsity’s event portfolio. It proved that even with a tight timeline, a focused MVP could drive meaningful impact, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the customer experience at scale.
